Due to a reorganization of my department, I am now reporting to this Head who was previously in charge of 1 unit but has been added a new unit which I am in. What was confusing was the new name of my unit which covers two major areas which are basically my projects. After a meeting today, we were informed that the projects in one of the major areas in my unit are to be handled by other units in the department.
The best part was, which I don't think my new Head is aware of (including the Senior Boss), my Division Head has called me two months ago to explain to him the type of projects in this new unit. Recognizing the name of the new unit, which was my original idea, I have basically described my projects to him.
So my tbought is, if my understanding of the name of this unit is wrong, what project comes under the category of this area????

The Gambler
Today after a long day at work and on my way, I felt a sudden saddness and there were tears in my eyes. As always whenever I feel sad, this song by Lobo will automatically pop into my mind;
Well today I'm so weary
Today I'm so blue
Sad and broken hearted
And it's all because of you
Life was so sweet dear
Life was a song
Now you've gone and left me
Oh where do I belong
And it's all for the love of a dear little girl
All for the love that set your heart in a whirl
I'm a man who'd give his life and the joys of this world
All for the love of a girl
When I reach home, I played this song repeatly and it somehow cheer me up. I know I am strong to move on. Life is a gambler, you have to learn how to survive just like what Kenny Rogers said in his song -
On a warm summer's eve, on a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler. We were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a-starin' out the window at the darkness.
When boredom overtook us, he began to speak.
He said, "Son, I've made a life out of readin' people's faces.
Knowin' what the cards were by the way they held their eyes.
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're out of aces,
For a taste of your whiskey, I'll give you some advice."
So I handed him my bottle, and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his faced lost all expression.
He said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right.
You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.
Every gambler knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away and knowin' what to keep.
'Cause every hand's a winner and every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep."
And when he finished speakin', he turned back toward the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness, the gambler he broke even.
And in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

Seeing beyond a person's face
Today, I was surprised by what a colleague said about a former staff in my department. Quote "That guy has become very arrogant during the past year". Unquote, and we will only talking about punctuality on reporting for work. This former staff has been at least 30 minutes late for work almost everyday and not a word from the bosses questioning him about his lateness. Too much levy has been given to him by the bosses. For the worst record, he was 2.5 hours late and the boss was the one trying to contact him. It seem a common topic among my colleagues about this former staff's lateness and the way he got away with it.
Why we say that? Cause, if we were discovered by the boss that we are late, everyone in the department will know about it as we will be "tick off" by the boss loudly. As for the former staff, silence is the word from the bosses. And it is also a common practice (with the execption of this former staff) to inform our supervisor if we are going to be late.
I have questioned one of the bosses about being late for work - do we need to call in and inform our supervisor that we are going to be late or if we not call in, how late can we be? "No reply" from the boss which I have already known even before I put the questions to him.
I couldn't but agreed with my colleague that this former staff is "arrogant" and has become very bold during the past year. This is because he has gone too far in bad-mouthing untruth things about me and I felt very hurt and sad about it. I wonder why my supervisor is not able to see the truth. Because of him, I lost a lunch partner. They believed he is very good in his work. What they never realise is who has in his earlier days in the department has taught him on the project he was handling before he left the company. I was his "sifu" and now I HAVE BEEN STABBED IN THE BACK without knowing why. Maybe I know why, the prime mover on spreading untruth things about me to cover his own weakness is still at work again.
Another colleague has said this to me "He will never be able to convince me that he is so good in his work". To this colleague of mine "You are right MAN!"
Thank goodness he is no longer around!! I am very glad he's GONE!!
